Hannah Lewis Jones

Celebrates 87 Years

Hannah Lewis Jones was born April 1, 1920 to Willie and Minnie Lewis in Greene County. She was married to the late Henry Casey Jones and reared seven children.  Although she lived most of her life in Snow Hill, she was the first black women to move into Simon bright Apartments where she resided for 16 years, being a fulltime mother and housewife for 30 years. Until her retirement in 2006, Jones worked on the farm and did housekeeping for others - all while being dedicated to her church and praising god. There's a motto that she says - "the kind of fire that I have, nobody can put it out." Mother Hannah is well-known for her famous sweet potato pies and molasses pudding - just ask her family and friends. The family held a birthday dinner on march 31, 2007 at the Green County Senior center.
 


Happy birthday Mother Hannah, we love you and may god bless you with many more - you are a living testimony.
